( after Costache Ioanid)
I was looking for love, like for a lost town, Like for a singing heaven in a world of pain, I rushed into life and all that liked my eye, And I only suffered; but heaven was nowhere. I was looking for love, like for a happy nation, Like for an paradisiacal earth, filled with peace, To say to the moment: ”Stay, you are so beautiful!” I’ve been everywhere, but what I looked for, I missed. I was looking for love, like for a manly heaven, To find it and welcome it with branches of olive tree, To drink the cup of life, to feel the happiness, And I smashed the cup,‘cause happiness was not in it. I was looking in vain. But one spring, I suddenly met a man walking by, And on His tired shoulders He was carrying a bag Filled with rags and things you’d never buy. He was walking the road, being insulted, Letting the dogs break His only wear, Going up on rocks, leaving behind Him Tracks of red, hot, blood,...I swear. But in His eyes, He’s got a mysterious heaven, As I never saw in nobody’s eyes before,... And I wanted to steal His bag; but I fell down ‘Cause heavy was the bag He carried on His shoulder. I stand up right away and I followed Him To find out what kind of treasure He has got, And I remained astonished and started to cry As I've found out in the bag kept that: ‘Cause in His bag was boiling Teem of yeast, foam of dreg, All what you find dirty and rotten in the world, All that, was in His bag. - But where do you go, stranger, with your bag Of pain, you carry so hard? I asked the walking man. And He answered: - To the forgetting waters, all this to throw out. - And you? He asked watching me, What are you looking for, ‘cause I see you in pain? -I...silently and bored said, I...was looking for love. - Love? It was the answer... love I am. August 4th 2001
